The large air filter silencer is covered with a light gauze mesh, which over time work hardens & breaks down. The mesh allows particulates including product, such as cement dust on this bulk carrier into the engine.

This VTR 631 filter was manufactured in 2 split halves for ease of maintenance because of it’s size.

No modifications are necessary to fit the filter.

Large one piece filters are much easier to manhandle than first imagined. Each half weighs only 42 Kg each.

The air drop across the filter measures 32mm at 90% load when clean.
